Step 1: Obtain Your Learner’s Permit
Age Requirement: At least 16 years old.
Theory Test: Pass with a minimum score of 24 out of 30.
Validity: The learner’s permit is valid for 3 years.
Step 2: Accumulate Driving Experience
Supervised Driving: Complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving, including 5 hours of night-time driving, recorded in your Log Book.
Exemptions: Applicants aged 25 years and older are exempt from the Log Book requirement.
Step 3: Pass the Hazard Perception Test (HPT)
Eligibility: After holding your learner’s permit for at least 6 months and reaching at least 16 years and 6 months of age.
Step 4: Complete the Practical Driving Assessment (PDA)
Requirements: After completing the 50 supervised driving hours in your Log Book and reaching at least 17 years of age.
Step 5: Obtain Your Provisional Licence
Duration: 2-year provisional period.
First 6 Months:
Display: Red 'P' plates.
Restrictions:
Night Driving: Not permitted to drive between 12 am and 5 am, with exceptions for employment and education purposes.
Passenger Limit: Effective December 1, 2024, red P-plate drivers are restricted to carrying only one passenger at all times, with exceptions for immediate family members or if supervised by a fully licensed driver with at least four years of experience.
Remaining 18 Months:
Display:Green 'P' plates.
Restrictions: No specific night-time driving or passenger restrictions.
